Community Peace Officers
The Special Areas Board currently employs two Community Peace Officers who work to uphold and enforce specific provincial and federal legislation as well as Board policies. Reporting to the Director of Municipal Services, the focus of the Special Areas Board's enforcement services is to help conserve and protect the Board's municipal infrastructure, including municipal parks and roadways, while working in partnership with external enforcement agencies including Alberta Environment & Parks and RCMP.

Officer John Armstrong has been employed by the Special Areas Board as a Community Peace Officer since 1995. Focusing on enforcement activities in municipal parks, Officer Armstrong is responsible for protecting park property, maintaining the public peace and helping ensure the safe and secure use of municipal parks for all users. Officer Armstrong also acts as Supervisor for the Board’s municipal parks, coordinating all fishery activities with agency representatives from Alberta Environment & Parks.

Officer Jamie Erickson has been employed by the Special Areas Board as a Community Peace Officer since 2018. Focusing on enforcement activities on municipal roadways, Officer Erickson is responsible for ensuring the use of municipal roadway infrastructure is managed in a responsible and sustainable manner.

Controlled Burn Notifications
Effective November 9, 2020 the Fire Restriction in the Special Areas is lifted.
Controlled Burn Notifications are required for any type of burning, except campfires and incinerator fires. Safe campfires are allowed in campgrounds and random camping areas.
