Road Use Agreements

Road Use Agreements

As the Road Use Authority for Special Area No. 2, 3 & 4, the Special Areas Board enters into Road Use Agreements to help protect municipal roads and support the safety of the travelling public.

To find out if your operation needs a Road Use Agreement call Roadata Services at 1-888-730-3745 or visit www.roadata.com.

What Is A Road Use Agreement?

A Road Use Agreement is a tool used to protect municipal roads by helping Special Areas monitor heavy vehicle traffic, manage wear and tear on the roads, and plan for future maintenance. Special Areas Enforcement Services help monitor roads and ensure Road Use Agreements are enforced to help prevent problems like road damage.

Agricultural producers are exempt from requiring Road Use Agreements.

Even though you may not need a Road Use Agreement, we still want to know if you will be hauling:

  • 6 or more loads (including legal & overweight)
  • Moving to the same location
  • In a 24 hour period

If this is you, reach out to your local Road Foreman! You will need to know your planned route(s), haul dates, and any other important information. Sharing this information with our Road Services team helps us better plan maintenance work and keep our roads in good shape.

When Do I Need One?

Road Use Agreements are required year-round, even when the road ban season is over. A Road Use Agreement will be required:

  • If you are exceeding five loads to or from the same destination within a 24-hour period
  • For industrial users like gravel trucks and commercial haulers
  • For Oil & Gas operations including all drilling and service rigs if exceeding 5 loads for moves

How Do I Apply?

All applications for a Road Use Agreement are made through Roadata Services. Once a Road Use Agreement has been approved and signed, and email will be sent to the applicant. Any haulers contacting Special Areas Road Services will be re-directed to Roadata Services. An application fee is charged for Road Use Agreements.

Applications are not valid until the hauler receives a signed copy of the Road Use Agreement (Permit). To apply for a Road Use Agreement, contact Roadata Services at 1-888-730-3745 or by email at permits@roadata.com
