Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What happens if it rains?
A: Rain will delay the application process. Road surfaces must dry before work can resume. If rain occurs shortly after product placement, crews will monitor conditions, as surfaces may become slippery, rutted, or rough.
Q: When does the program start?
A: Dust abatement applications typically occur in May and June, but timing depends heavily on weather.
Q: Why is there a delay between paying and the actual application?
A: Product is ordered in the spring to secure pricing for the season. Applications must be received early so materials can be included in this order. Roads must also be properly prepared before the product is applied.
Q: Can I get a refund if I change my mind?
A: Unfortunately, no. Refunds are not available because product is ordered early each year and cannot be returned.
Q: What if the dust abatement surface becomes rough?
A: Contact your local Road Maintenance Foreman. Staff will inspect and take reasonable steps to correct the issue.
Q: Why is the grader operator grading my dust abatement surface?
A: If the surface becomes rough or poses a hazard, Special Areas may grade it. Crews typically wait for rain—or apply water—to reactivate the dust suppressant before smoothing the surface. This process usually restores it to its original condition.
