Gordon Long – Advisory Councillor for Special Area No. 4, Subdivision 1
We are excited to introduce the newest member of the Special Areas Advisory Council – Gordon Long! Gordon was elected as Advisory Councillor for Special Area No. 4, Subdivision 1 in early March as a part of the recent byelection. You can learn more about the Special Areas Advisory Council by visiting our Board & Advisory Council page.
Gordon was born and raised in the Special Areas, and liked it so much he decided to stay and raise his family here. Gordon and his wife Paulette operate a mixed farming and ranching operation just north of Veteran. They are active on many different community boards and groups, and have served on the local Road Committee, Ag Service Board, Recreation Board, and many other.
We wanted to give everyone a chance to get to know Gordon and to share what he is most looking forward to in his new role as Advisory Councillor.
Q: Congratulations Gordon on your election to Advisory Council! What made you want to serve as an elected official for your area?
A: Well, I definitely enjoy getting a chance to help out and serve my community. I have served on various boards and committees and really enjoyed those opportunities. I thought this was a great way for me to contribute.
Q: Is there anything you are most excited about in your new role as Advisory Councillor?
A: I am really looking forward to getting a chance to meet people and learn more about all the things going on in the Special Areas. I know I learned a lot when I sat on different boards like the Road Committee, Ag Service Board, and Recreation Board. I think Advisory Council will be a really interesting way to see all the things that are happening in the Special Areas, and to learn more about how I can help. Plus I am a people kind of person, so I am looking forward to getting to know and work with a bunch of new people.
Q: Are there any areas or priorities you are wanting to focus on?
A: Well, I think there are a lot of ways Special Areas is working to make life better for our region. I want to be able to help promote the Special Areas and help attract people here. I am looking forward to learning more about projects like the regional irrigation work happening with the province, and new programs like the nurse practitioner beginning to practice in Consort this summer.
Q: What do you like most about living in the Special Areas?
A: I have lived in the Special Areas all my life, and I think sometimes it is easy to forget all the things that make living here so great. I recently came home from a trip where we traveled through the States, and I was struck by how much I appreciate getting to live here. Special Areas does a great job of keeping doing things that make life good for people here in the area, and having things that help attract more people to come work and live here.
