In our March Kochia Webinar Series Jason Lindgren of NuFarm gave our listeners some excellent tips to increase the efficacy of herbicide applications. Here are some great reminders as producers start applying their pre-emergent herbicides:
- Layer your herbicides (use different herbicides with different modes of action at different times of year that target the same weed populations)
- Optimize spray coverage by using high water volumes, medium droplet sizes, spray at less than 14mph, adjust boom height for nozzle angle, type & spacing. Remember if using a contact herbicide, coverage is ESSENTIAL!
- Know your water quality & adjust appropriately (test your water supplies annually!)
- Right Product, Right Rate, Right Time, Right place!
- The best weed control you can buy all year is good crop competition!
