08 Apr Emergency Preparedness Information Session & BBQ
We are all impacted by emergencies – and unexpected situations happen at any time! Being prepared at an individual level helps our communities have a stronger emergency management foundation. It also helps those impacted by emergencies get back to their life and work sooner after major emergencies and disasters.
The Town of Oyen and Special Areas Board are excited to announce a community emergency preparedness day on Monday, May 6 at the Oyen Fire Hall. Whether you live in town or out in the country, this evening drop-in style event will help you #BePrepared in case of emergencies! It will also give you a chance to enjoy a delicious BBQ meal cooked and supplied by ATCO Energy, and maybe even win some cool prizes!
HALO Air Ambulance Services will be hosting a live helicopter landing demonstration at 6pm, and emergency management partners from across the region will be on hand with equipment tours, safety tips, and much, much more. Come on out and see what else we have in store for you!
Emergency Preparedness Week is a national event that has run for more than 25 years and takes place during the first full week of May. Emergency Preparedness Week gives us all a chance to focus on emergency preparedness – and to take steps to reduce our risks and be more prepared.
Trying to prepare your home and property for disasters can feel overwhelming, and you may be asking “What can I do in a single day to help stay safer?”. Emergency management partners from across the region will be on hand to share simple steps you can take to reduce your risks. You can expect to see lots of useful tips and tools at this event, including a chance to meet with representatives from Alberta Health Services, ATCO, HALO, RCMP, and local fire departments. Come on out and find out more about your risks, make a plan, and build your emergency kit.
No RSVPs needed – all residents throughout the region are invited to this community event. Grassfire safety toolkits, Fire Smart packages, and emergency preparedness tools will all be available at no charge. Door prizes will include 72-hour emergency kits, firefighting tools, and more!
This event is funded in part through FireSmart Canada’s Community Preparedness Day program. You can learn more about FireSmart at https://firesmartcanada.ca/homeowners/.
