Because of the warmer fall weather patterns sticking around, there is still time to control winter annuals and pesky perennial weeds.
Weeds like stork’s bill, annual sow thistle (common and spiny), Canada thistle, dandelions etc.
Why control in fall?
- Many beneficial grasses are dying off, so reduced competition allows herbicides to target the specific pesky broadleaves.
- As these perennials prepare for winter, they are ramping up their energy reserves in preparation for winter.
- Fall weather generally provides more stable weather conditions, reducing leaching into soil profiles and other potential non-desirable areas.
- It is easier to integrate multiple control options in cooler fall weather conditions, bearing greater outcomes.
