Increased Lodging Amongst Crop Producers

Increased Lodging Amongst Crop Producers

Not that we will ever complain about additional moisture in our part of the prairies, but it also resulted in increased lodging amongst our crop producers, when it paired with the occasional gallic winds.

Different Types of Lodging:

  • Root lodging
    • Most common
    • Occurs earlier in the season
    • Straight, intact stems leaning from crown
  • Stem lodging
    • Mainly induced by storms
    • Generally, occurs when crop is drying down / ripe
    • Bending or breaking of lower internodes
