02 Apr Public Meeting: Help Shape the Future of the CJ Peacock Centre
Special Areas is inviting Cereal and area residents to take an active role in an important community conversation about the future of the CJ Peacock Centre. A public meeting will be held on Wednesday, April 22 at 7:00 pm at the CJ Peacock Centre in Cereal, and all residents are encouraged to attend.
This discussion builds on feedback shared at the March 5, 2026 Annual General Meeting of the Cereal Community Centre (CCC) group. An information sheet summarizing what we heard at that meeting will be shared, along with an overview of the key decisions the community will need to consider.
Why Your Voice Matters
In late 2025, the Special Areas Advisory Council provided direction that Special Areas should end its operations of the CJ Peacock Centre after 2026, as the municipality does not operate other community halls in the region. This decision has created an important opportunity for residents to help determine what comes next for the facility.
Background
The CJ Peacock Centre has served as an important gathering place for Cereal. Originally a former school, it was transferred to Special Areas following the dissolution of the Village of Cereal in 2020. During the transition, Special Areas evaluated all village-owned buildings to determine future use. The CJ Peacock Centre was selected to serve as the Cereal Community Centre, and several critical repairs were completed using provincial transition funding.
Since 2021, Special Areas has operated the facility on a temporary basis. With that temporary period coming to an end, residents now need to help determine the future ownership, management, and operation of the centre.
Your Participation Is Key
This public meeting is a chance for residents to share ideas, ask questions, and work together toward a sustainable plan. Whether you use the building regularly, attend occasional events, or simply care about the future of local community spaces, your input will help guide the next steps.
No RSVP is required. Light refreshments will be provided.
