Common Mullein is a noxious weed spreading across Alberta, often found in disturbed areas like roadsides, pastures, and railroads. Early detection and management are essential.
How to identify it:
- Large, soft, gray-green, fuzzy leaves arranged in a rosette at the base
- Tall flowering stalks that can reach 1–2 meters with small yellow flowers
- Woolly texture on leaves and stems
- Blooms from mid-summer into fall
Why it’s considered noxious:
- Competes with desirable forage and crops, reducing productivity
- Forms dense patches that are difficult to remove once established
- Produces thousands of seeds that spread easily by wind and animals
Early action helps prevent the spread and protects your land.
