05 May 2025 Annual Ratepayer Meetings Announced
Annual ratepayer meetings are planned for May and June, beginning May 22 in Buffalo. At these public meetings, residents can meet with Advisory Councillors and Special Areas staff right in their communities. The annual ratepayer meeting “tour” translates to over 1,200 kilometers on the road.
Annual ratepayer meetings have been a part of how Special Areas connects since the early days of the Board. These meetings are a great way for the public to be a part of municipal decision-making. At these meetings, administration reports on prior and current year activities, sharing updates on key programs and projects. Ratepayers can make motions to Advisory Council and give feedback on Special Areas performance and policies.
Issues discussed at ratepayer meetings are as diverse as the individuals who attend them! Motions can range from individual concerns on specific projects to larger policy and program considerations. Ratepayer Meeting Motion are reviewed by Advisory Council each fall at their regular meeting, often spurring new policy and program development for the entire Special Areas.
Ratepayers can pick up copies of public documents like audited financial statements, newsletters, presentations, and public reports at these annual meetings. For those not able to attend in person, digital copies of presentations and documents are available on the Ratepayer Meeting page.
If you are not able to attend your local ratepayer meeting and would like to discuss an issue or concern, please reach out to your Advisory Councillor. You can find Advisory Council contact information here.
